MN College Entrance Requirements

Students and families need to know what requirements colleges have in order to better plan their high school courses and extra-curricular activities. These are entrance requirements for Minnesota colleges:

2 year colleges (community and technical) and private trade schools

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Take the Accuplacer Exam to determine course eligibility

4 year State Colleges and Universities

  • Complete HS graduation requirements including 2 years of a World Language
  • Must also meet at least 1 of the following:
  •   21 ACT score
  •   Top 50% of class
  •   1,000 or higher combined score on SAT

University of MN

  • Complete HS graduation requirements including 2 years of a World Language and 4 years of math
  • Consideration also given to:
    • GPA
    • ACT score
    • Advanced coursework
    • Extra-curricular activities

Private 4 year Colleges and Universities

  • Complete HS graduation requirements including 2 OR MORE years of a World Language*
  • Consideration also given to:
    • GPA
    • ACT score
    • Advanced coursework
    • Extra-curricular activities

*Private colleges may also require the completion of a 3rd or 4th year of world language at the college level to receive a degree.
